Wrexham's Hollywood owners were 'desperate' to get involved in the promotion party, according to the club's star player Paul Mullin.

The Dragons hosted Boreham Wood last Saturday, knowing three points would be enough to see them back in the football league for the first time in 14 years. But amid a raucous atmosphere, the hosts got a nightmare start as Lee Ndlovu struck inside a minute.

But Elliot Lee levelled before the break, before striker Mullin took centre stage. He hit two stunning second half goals to seal the win, and the National League title, sparking incredible scenes at the final whistle.

And Mullin, who has struck 38 times in the league this season, has now revealed just how keen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were to celebrate with the players and fans: "They were desperate to get involved," he told Tubes on the latest episode of Tubes & Ange Golf Life.

But Mullin had no doubt as to whether their joy was real: "They were over the moon with it," he added. "You've seen it on the pitch. What you see is what you get with them. They're genuine.

"We were out partying and they just strolled in ready to join in with this us. We were playing a song the Wrexham fans sing for them, so we put that on the speakers and were singing it to them as they walked in. It was class."

The party didn't end there. Next Tuesday, the North Wales town will host on an open top bus parade to parade the newly won trophy, and the A-list owners have also hinted at taking the players to Las Vegas as a reward.

Mullin himself also spoke of his own recollection of the post-match scenes, labelling them "surreal." He said: "It was just mental. Pandemonium around the place and in the changing room. It just hits ya, what we'd achieved."

Wrexham have already amassed a record breaking 110 points at an average of 2.44 points per game this season, beating the previous marker of 105 set by Crawley Town in 2010/11. But Mullin admitted: "Half the time we didn't even know how many points we had, we just knew we had to keep winning."
