Ralf Rangnick has urged Julian Nagelsmann to think twice about joining Chelsea due to the ongoing turmoil at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are mulling over their options after dispensing with the services of former head coach Graham Potter earlier this month.

Club legend Frank Lampard currently in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season. However, the former Everton boss has lost all four of his matches since returning to the dugout, with the Blues currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League and out of Europe following their defeat against Real Madrid in midweek.

Behind the scenes, the Chelsea hierarchy are laying out plans for next season and have held initial discussions with Nagelsmann, whose stock is still high despite losing his job at Bayern Munich last month. But Rangnick has sent a thinly-veiled warning to his former RB Leipzig colleague by insisting that the amount of issues that would need solving at Chelsea makes the job an unattractive one.

Rangick told ZDF, via German outlet BILD: “At the moment, no matter who comes as a coach, you can’t really recommend anyone to go there. The very first thing to do is establish some sort of strategy and reduce the squad to a reasonable size that any coach can work with.”

Rangnick's warning comes in the wake of his uninspiring stint as interim manager of Manchester United last season. The highly-rated German coach stepped in after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties, but failed to steady the ship at United, who limped to their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era.

Although there are some similarities between United's troubles last year and Chelsea's struggles this term, the Red Devils issues were far more mild than the plight the Blues currently find themselves in.

Even in spite of his unsuccessful stint at Old Trafford, Rangnick insisted he had "no regrets" over his time in the Premier League when speaking to reporters at the end of last season. He said: “No. No regrets whatsoever. I would do it over and over again.

“I don’t regret that at all. As a manager you always have to question and ask yourself what you could have done better, if I could have played with a different formation in certain games, if a substitution could have been done earlier. This is what always happens we always ask question ourselves what we could have done better.

"I think we are all aware it’s not an easy squad, the whole situation was not easy or I would not be sitting here and Ole would probably still be here. Again, I think we have shown in the past couple of months we were able to raise the level but not in the same sustainable way that I would have wished. That’s the reason I’m not happy at all with what we’ve done and achieved so far.”
