Former Liverpool ace and Sky Sports regular Jamie Carragher has questioned why Manchester United talent Antony seems to get more criticism than his team-mate Jadon Sancho.

Since signing for the Red Devils in the summer for a whopping £88million fee, Antony has been the subject of intense scrutiny and has often been blasted by prominent pundits and United club legends. Of course, the Brazilian has to take some responsibility, he went from October to April without scoring a league goal.

With that being said, he has also enjoyed some notable highlights in a United shirt. From a fantastic debut finish against Arsenal in September, to a stellar strike to dump out Barcelona from the Europa League, the ex-Ajax man clearly has talent.

And yet, he faces a lot of criticism. Undeniably more than Sancho, who has contributed significantly less to the Red Devils cause. This has not evaded the attention of Carragher, who took to Twitter to address as much.

The Anfield icon wrote: "Antony has done more in six months than Sancho has in two years. Yet Antony gets plenty of criticism & Sancho gets very little", followed by a shrugging, confused emoji.

Antony has eight goals and two assists to his name since his mega-money switch in the summer. That's three more goal contributions than Sancho, who hardly set the world alight in his debut season last term.

The England international was purchased from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for a £73m fee and struggled throughout his first campaign as a United player. He netted five goals and registered three assists, meaning Antony has already bettered his goal tally when comparing debut seasons.

The fact that Sancho was withdrawn at half-time of United's defeat by Sevilla is a damning indictment of his form at the moment.

Sancho failed to make any kind of meaningful impact within the 45 minutes he was given and was duly replaced by Marcus Rashford at the interval.

Antony, on the other hand, was given the full 90 minutes. It certainly wasn't a performance to remember individually or as a collective, but the Brazilian was arguably United's stand-out performer as they fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Spaniard.

Multiple errors from the likes of Harry Maguire and David de Gea gifted Sevilla the victory and progression to the last four of the Europa League, while United are left licking their wounds ahead of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final clash against Brighton.
