Baby showers and gender reveals are blossoming in popularity in recent years as expecting parents celebrate the upcoming arrival of their child alongside their closest friends and family.

While there's a variety of ways that gender can be unveiled, it tends to include the stereotypical colours of pink and blue.

However, one pregnant woman was in utter disbelief after mistaking the wrong colour for her gender reveal, which initially sparked an ecstatic reaction.

Tiffany Elewin - who boasts more than 1,700 followers on TikTok account @tiffanyelewin - shared a clip of the mishap on the popular video-streaming service, which has surpassed a whopping 3.5 million views to date.

"Gender reveal pranks are not the one," she captioned the post.

Upon opening a box to discover her baby's gender underneath, Tiffany excitedly screamed, "It's a girl!"

The box unveiled a variety of coloured balloons - from white to rose gold.

However, Tiffany and her partner mistook the rose gold for pink, claiming that the two colours looked extremely alike.

Laying at the bottom of the box was a singular blue balloon and upon its discovery, Tiffany knew instantly that the reveal was a prank, which quickly took a toll on her mood.

Since sharing the clip online, the TikToker's video has raked in 1,000 comments to date - where people were admittedly understanding about the expecting mother's reaction.

"I'd be so upset lol," one person claimed.

A second agreed: "Nah, I would of walked out. People don't understand fr…."

A third penned: "This would definitely be my reaction for a boy too."

"I understand why u were upset, I don't think pranks are great for things like this but also I take everything way too seriously," a fourth said.
