Chelsea face the biggest match of their season so far on Tuesday night, with the visit of Real Madrid for their Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Carlo Ancelotti returns to Stamford Bridge to take on his former player, Frank Lampard, who is managing the Blues for a second spell in charge. It has been a tough return for the 44-year-old, with three defeats in his first three matches and an uphill struggle to overturn a two-goal deficit against Real on Tuesday night.

Madrid won the tie last week, courtesy of goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio either side of a red card for Blues defender Ben Chilwell. However, there remains a glimmer of hope for Chelsea, with Los Blancos failing to put the tie to bed despite their domination and a one-man advantage for over half an hour.

The weekend saw more disappointment for the Blues, with a 2-1 loss to Brighton making it successive defeats to start in the Premier League for Lampard. This is coupled with Real's win in la Liga against Cadiz, meaning that any win for Chelsea in this match would be a big shock.

The winner of the tie will progress to face either Manchester City or Bayern Munich for a place in the Champions League final. However, for Chelsea to earn that chance it will take them summoning the underdog spirit of their 2012 Champions League win to beat the reigning champions.

Team News

Kai Havertz returned to training on Monday for Chelsea and is expected to be available for the second leg after missing the weekend's match with Brighton. Ngolo Kante is also expected to be fit and available for the match after being rested for the the loss against the Seagulls.

However, along with the suspended Chilwell, Kalidou Koulibaly also joins long-term absentee Armando Broja on the side-lines, with an injury sustained in the first leg looking set to rule him out for a number of weeks. Real, meanwhile, will have just one player unavailable for the match, with Ferland Mendy missing due to a calf injury.
