Todd Boehly found himself being confronted by Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge as he saw the Blues lose once again.

The American sat in his usual spot in the director's box but was subjected to criticism from fans who sat above him in west London. Boehly threw his arms out as an angry fan appeared to make his feelings clear as Chelsea's difficult season continued on Saturday afternoon.

Boehly is in his first year at the helm having co-purchased the club from Roman Abramovich, but little has gone to plan despite him spending over £600m on new recruits. He's currently on the lookout for his third permanent manager with Frank Lampard in interim charge until the season ends.

Anger is increasing at Stamford Bridge with Brighton the latest side to see off the Blues. They came from behind to secure a 2-1 win and resign Lampard to a third successive defeat since his return. It also leaves Chelsea firmly in the bottom half with a Champions League exit also looking inevitable.

Boehly's decision making has been called into question throughout his time at the top. His predecessor invested huge sums and was ruthless when it came to sacking managers, but the Chelsea enjoyed a period of success never before experienced in their history.

The 49-year-old has previously been accused of playing "football manager" in the summer as he spent big to add the likes of Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella. He sacked Thomas Tuchel just weeks into the season and replaced him with Graham Potter, citing a "long-term vision" which didn't last.

Now the club are looking for a new permanent boss with Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino among the candidates to take over. Neville took aim at the American, who has not adapted well to owning a football club after success in his homeland.

He told The Overlap. "You've still got two months of the season to go, you've got to do it properly. I don't think Chelsea can afford just to leave Graham Potter's No 2 in until the end of the season. They had to do something. They obviously can't get the man that they want. Whether it be Nagelsmann, (Mauricio) Pochettino or whoever. The guy Boehly is having an absolute nightmare. It's not going well at all."

Chelsea's owner was left with eggs on his face in midweek as he claimed the Blues would beat Real Madrid 3-0 before they were done 2-0 by the Spanish giants. The club are now set for a season without European football with Boehly set to invest again this summer amid mounting questions about his stewardship.
