A mum-of-two given months to live after noticing a strange system is now in a desperate life-prolonging bid for help.

Emma Gorrick, 37, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer two years ago, with medics at the time giving her a bleak prognosis of just eight weeks.

The family, from Sydney, went on to scrape as much money together as possible - with medical bills rising to more than $350,000 AUD (around £187,000) as her cancer spread.

Emma, mum to Mya, seven, and Ryan, four, says the only reason she has beaten her prognosis is thanks to her family pouring all their financed into her bills - but now says the financial pressures are becoming crippling.

Her husband Dave, 40, has been working up to 60 hours a week to pay for her treatments, which are not covered by health insurance.

Emma told 7News : "I have never asked (for money) myself but this time I know the depth of help I need, and I’ll do anything to have more time with my family and loved ones.

"We have spent over $350,000 in the last three-and-a-half years keeping me here and it’s proof that I’m still here.

"As our finances have diminished I have had to minimise my appointments accordingly and it’s shown greatly in my recent declining health.

"I just want to stay around forever and ever. This is actually my life."

Emma first beat for the first time at 25 after she was diagnosed in 2011.

She underwent intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy.

Emma was also advised to freeze her eggs as the treatments could send her into early menopause.

However, the couple was able to conceive two kids naturally - before her world was once again turned upside down

Just as life was looking up after Emma was given the all-clear, the family’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, an incurable condition where cancerous cells have spread to other parts of the body.
