Tottenham have put Vincent Kompany at the top of their shortlist to take over as manager in the summer.

Cristian Stellini is currently in interim charge of Spurs after Antonio Conte was sacked last month. It means Spurs are now looking for their third manager in 18 months, with Conte having replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in November 2021.

The Italian's reign fell apart after he delivered an extraordinary blast of his players and the club's hierarchy after a draw with basement boys Southampton. Now, the Premier League side are eyeing the highly-rated Kompany to take over at the end of the season.

Kompany has led Burnley back to the top-flight in stunning fashion, with the Clarets having lost just two games all season. They are 14 points clear at the top of the Championship, with six games left of the campaign.

According to The Sun, his management of Burnley has drawn the eye of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. Kompany's success at Turf Moor has left Levy 'blown away', with glowing reports coming in about the Belgian.

Levy has been watching Arsenal's progress under Mikel Arteta with envy, with the Spaniard having led the Gunners to an unlikely title challenge. Before being appointed, Arteta had spent three years working as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City.

Kompany was also at the Etihad in that period, spending the final three years of his time at City as captain under Guardiola. And Spurs are becoming increasingly convinced that Kompany can give the club a 'new dimension'.

Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers, Arne Slot and Mauricio Pochettino are also in the running. But Kompany has the advantage of successfully putting together an impressively entertaining side having had to sign almost an entire new team last summer.

The Belgian is thought to be open to joining Spurs amid concerns Burnley do not have the funds to mount a successful survival battle next year. Levy is keen to act quickly and has already received a glowing reference from Guardiola.

"It's nice he's back, but over the last two or three days I've been thinking about what they've done this season. What I saw didn't make me totally surprised about the position they're in, being so close to being a Premier League team next year already," he said ahead of an FA Cup quarter-final clash between City and Burnley last month.

"Seeing what they do more closely, I understand it completely. They will be really, really tough because they do incredible things on the pitch.

"A manager needs time but to be successful with a team, and you need to convince [them] as soon as possible what you believe is the best way to win the games to suit the players perfectly. They have a good team - and the way they play is exceptional."
