A man has been left in hysterics after uncovering a note from a previous homeowner when stripping off their wallpaper. He explained how he set about redecorating his new house shortly after moving in - but had to stop to recompose himself after seeing the message they left behind.

Taking to Reddit, he said: "Found [this message] under old wallpaper while redecorating: "This wall is a b***** to paper!". Thankfully for him, he'll never know how bad it is to wallpaper as he has opted to paint it instead.

He added: "It's a b***** to remove paper from - that's for sure. But it's going to be painted so I'll never know [how bad it is]. I have been ripping the paper off the bits where the paper has bubbled from age and there was a bit of writing underneath so it piqued my interest.

"On every other wall the previous owners have written their name and ages.

"I've wallpapered only once and although it went OK it was such a faff that I avoid it at all costs! I can imagine wallpapering with a spouse would be the ultimate test in marriage."

It comes after a woman uncovered a helpful note from her previous homeowner when redecorating a room in her house.

Hidden under the 1990s wallpaper, the note read: "If you ever need to wallpaper this room again, it will take eight rolls of wallpaper. I bought just six rolls at £17 per roll on 5/12/97 and I didn't have enough. It really p***ed me off. Jon 21/12/97."

A picture of the note been shared on Reddit and has racked in more than 66,000 upvotes and about 700 comments.

While most users couldn't help but laugh at Jon's mistake, others questioned "what kind of man puts up wallpaper four days before Christmas".

One person said: "Maybe his girlfriend or boyfriend was the type to make poor Jon slave away redecorating just four days before Christmas when he should have been drinking beer."

Another added: "Hoping for two more rolls from Father Christmas?"

A third user wrote: "Someone who needs to prove that their life is together before the judgmental hoard of Christmas visitors arrive?"

Others took the opportunity to share the notes they have left for future homeowners, with some more questionable than others.

One user said: "I still plan to paint a big moustache next time I redecorate, so in the far future when we strip the walls to decorate again, I can turn to my wife and say 'you found my secret stash'."

Another user added: "When I was like 17 we redid the flooring in my room, I wrote 'free your mind your a** will follow' on the slab.

"An elderly couple bought the place, I like to believe they went to put some carpet in to keep their feet warm, but ended up living their best life listening to the chili peppers."
