A dog has died and its owner suffered "significant injuries" after being mauled by a bulldog along a beachfront.

One man had been walking along the beach in Lower Pennar, Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, with his two small dogs, when the vicious attack took place.

Police described a bull dog that attacked the man, leaving him with “significant” hand injuries, and killing one of his two dogs in the mauling.

The shocking attack, which took place on Wednesday 5 April, is just the latest such incident to take place across the UK.

Following the attack the woman who owned the bull dog left the scene with her two dogs and has not come forward to police.

Officers are now investigating the incident, and they are appealing for information and asking for the woman who was walking two bull dogs, one of which was on a lead and one of which wasn’t, to come forward.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “On April 5, at 2pm a man was walking in the beach area of Lower Pennar when he and his two dogs were attacked by another dog.

"He suffered significant injuries to his hand and one of the dogs died as a result of the attack.

"Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for anyone who saw a woman walking two dogs to come forward, and to also encourage the female with these dogs to help police with their enquiries.

"The woman was described as being in her mid-30s, and was wearing a bobble hat.

"She had two dogs which are described as bull dogs. One was off its lead and was grey with white around its nose. The other dog, which was on a lead, was darker in colour."
