Son close to tears during emotional dedication after 100th Premier League goal

Tottenham ace Son Heung-Min cut an emotional figure after he bagged his 100th Premier League goal in spectacular fashion in Spurs' 2-1 home win over Brighton.

The South Korean international opened the scoring with a stunning curling effort from outside the penalty area, a strike similar to so many Son has scored for Spurs in the past.

While the 30-year-old has been well below his best this term, his goal against the Seagulls was a welcome reminder of just how good he can be.

It also secured his place in the history books and ensured Son is the latest inductee into the Premier Leauge '100 club'. The feat is certainly something Spurs can be proud of and after the game the forward was nearly brought to tears as he dedicated the strike to his grandfather, who recently passed away.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Son explained: "This was something that I dreamed for. It is an amazing achievement which I wouldn't have had without my team-mates. Scoring 100 goals in the Premier League is a massive thing.

"I was really emotional because I have had tough moments in the last few weeks. My grandad passed away and it was not easy. I want to send that goal to him.

"I hope all the Asian players - especially in South Korea - look at this achievement and believe they can do it as well. It's a good thing for Asia and I take a big responsibility to be a good example to help the young guys. I want them to believe an Asian player can do amazing things in the Premier League."

Tottenham's interim boss Cristian Stellini also heaped praise on his forward, adding: "Yes it's a fabulous goal. It is the type of goal that Sonny deserves to find good confidence.

"I am very happy for him and the team and we celebrated in the dressing room his 100th goal in the Premier League."

Son is well aware that he has failed to hit the heights of previous campaigns this time around and addressed the matter after the game, while paying tribute to the supporters that have stuck by him during his decline in form.

"Sometimes you always expect an amazing season and it will be the same [as last year] but there can be more pressure. I'm the most frustrated guy and player but I see where I can improve.

"I am frustrated but I'm not the perfect player so I need to look at my weaknesses. The fans are supporting me and I need to take a big responsibility to do well for the rest of the season."

Lewis Dunk cancelled out Son's opener, but captain fantastic Harry Kane netted a winner late on to ensure Spurs came out of a game with a win from a game that saw both managers red carded.
