Gary Neville has mocked Aaron Wan-Bissaka after the right-back somehow managed to miss a golden chance to give Manchester United the lead against Everton.

Erik ten Hag's side dominated the opening stages at Old Trafford and should have taken the lead when Wan-Bissaka got gifted the perfect opportunity to score. Antony's initial long-range strike hit the post, before the full back reacted first from the rebound.

However, the ex-Crystal Palace man completely scuffed his effort and rolled it wide when it looked easier to score. All Wan-Bissaka needed to do was keep his composure and slot the ball into an empty net, but he showed exactly why he has netted just twice in 149 games for the Red Devils.

After Wan-Bissaka missed his chance, Neville took to Twitter and believes their right-back curse has continued over the years. He said: "The Right Back goal scoring curse at Old Trafford continues."

United continued to create chances throughout the first-half and should have been out of sight with the amount of opportunities they conjured-up. Marcus Rashford and Antony both squandered further chances, although Jordan Pickford started in fine form for the visitors.

It was Wan-Bissaka's missed opportunity that stood out to the United fans on social media, however. They fumed at how he didn't score, with one supporter claiming it was the 'miss of the season'.

One said: "We actually can't score today. That Wan-Bissaka miss will haunt us in a few minutes."

"Not Wan-Bissaka paying tribute to Timo Werner," another added. A third claimed: "Just saw Wan-Bissaka’s miss. I mean it was harder to not score."

A fourth said: "How has Wan-Bissaka missed that? Miss of the season." Another fumed: "How can you missed such a sitter Wan-Bissaka."

Although Wan-Bissaka was slammed for his shooting ability, he did get praised for his ball-playing quality and how much he has improved in possession. Replying to a tweet that claimed he has been better going forward, Neville could not agree more. He said: "Agreed. He’s a lot tidier on the ball."

United finally took the lead in the 36th minute through McTominay, who slotted the ball into the back of the net beyond Pickford after a neat passage of play from Jadon Sancho. It was richly deserved as the Red Devils dominated proceedings and deserved to go in front.

That is how it stayed at the break as Ten Hag's men took one step closer to moving back into third before Newcastle travel to Brentford at 3pm. In fact, United actually had 21 shots during the opening 45 minutes - which is the most recorded in a half so far this season.

United doubled their lead midway through the second-half as Anthony Martial fired the ball into the back of the net following Rashford's pass. It was a superb goal as they pounced on an error from Seamus Coleman.
