Prince Harry released a furious statement during Charles’s royal tour of Bahrain that left the now King “disappointed” at his son’s bad manners.

During the early days of Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle, the prince became “terrified” for her safety.

He would later confess that he feared she would suffer the same fate his mother Princess Diana did.

But, when news first broke of Harry’s relationship with Meghan in late October 2016, paparazzi quickly began targeting her for photos - keen to get a snap of the prince’s new love.

On November 8, Harry released a formal statement that said coverage of Meghan had “seen a line crossed”.

It added: “Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment.

“Some of this has been very public - the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”

It went on: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.

“It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game - it is her life and his.”

However, whilst Harry was fighting for his new love’s privacy, he unwittingly left his father put out by his actions.

At the time, the then Prince Charles had arrived in Bahrain on a Foreign Office-sponsored visit to the Gulf states.

Given just 20 minutes' notice, he could only watch as press attention was further wrenched from the tour to Harry and Meghan.

MailOnline reported that Our King, a new bombshell royal book, by Robert Jobson, wrote: “Reports at the time suggested Charles was ‘crushed’, but this was far from the truth. Instead, he was disappointed at what he regarded as his son’s bad manners.

“‘He would never have done such a thing if the Queen was on tour,’ said one former aide.”

The aide is said to have added: “‘Understandably, there is a hierarchy and a grid system, but Prince Harry seemed to think when it came to Meghan Markle, she would always take precedence.’”

Meanwhile, Prince William was also said to be “uneasy” and thought privately that his brother had “overreacted”.

The new royal book makes a number of damning bombshell claims as it chronicles Harry’s deteriorating relationship with Prince William, Charles, and the Royal Family.

This includes highlighting one moment following the Queen’s death, that Kate is said to have thought was “one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do”.

Due to “ill feeling” between the senior royal couples, the Princess of Wales is said to have struggled with the time spent together.

It took place outside Windsor Castle, two days after the Queen had died.

William had the idea to walk together in an effort to project unity, but the book claimed this was just an “illusion”.

The book reportedly said: “Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she'd ever had to do,”.
