Tesco has recalled a popular vegan breakfast cereal after one of its packs became contaminated with off-label milk and nuts.
The Tesco Free From Bran Flakes with a best-before date of May 26, 2024, could contain a small number of chocolate pillows, which contain the two ingredients not found on the label.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an alert after a mistake meant the product posed "a possible health risk” for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or hazelnuts.
Tesco has recalled the 300g packs of cereal and customers are advised to return the affected items to its shops.
They will be given a full £2 refund and no receipt is required.

The product has been recalled is the Tesco Free From Bran Flakes (Getty Images/iStockphoto)The recall notice states: “We have been made aware that some packs of Tesco Free From Bran Flakes 300g may contain a small amount of another variant of cereal (chocolate pillows), which contains milk and hazelnut.
“This is not declared on the Tesco Free From Bran Flakes 300g packaging and therefore the product could pose a safety risk to those people with an allergy or intolerance to milk and/or nuts.”
The cereal and branding are for those with specific diets, including those with allergies and intolerances.
The front of the box has it labelled that it is free of gluten wheat and milk.
The cereal is made of fortified rice and maize flakes states.
Its description states: "We want everyone to feel free to enjoy the foods they love.”
It comes after last month a Brit died after eating cheese contaminated with listeria, as health bosses ordered the recall of a type of cheese containing 'exceptionally high levels' of the bacteria.
The FSA and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned the public to not eat the batches of Baronet semi-soft cheeses, made by Wiltshire-based firm The Old Cheese Room.
The UKHSA identified three cases potentially linked to an outbreak, of which one person had died.
Baronet, a pasteurised semi-soft cheese, has a pinkish orange rind and a pungent smell and is sold in both small individual rounds and as 1kg wheels which can be cut down at deli counters.
