Stevie Allen, star of Still Game has tragically died, it is understood.

His co-star Jane McCarry shared the news while admitting she was absolutely devastated by his passing.

The actor, who played Frank 'Manky Frankie' Riley on the sitcom is believed to have died on Thursday,, according to Jane.

52-year-old Jane expressed her heartache and revealed that she had known him since the pair were just young children.

During his short stint on the Scottish sitcom, he starred alongside the likes of Greg Hemphill and Paul Riley.

His character was known for his love of bric-a-brac which would often be considered as junk by fellow characters, as well as dismantling cars and often leaving them in the communal areas of his block of flats, Osprey Heights.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Jane said: "I'm so sad to hear this news.

"I've known him since I was 12, he worked in my school as a science technician in the early 80s, and then I used to see him at Glasgow Arts Centre, he was a fantastic guy, so genuine and full of fun."

Meanwhile, Tom Urie who played Martin said: "I knew Stevie at the very start of my career at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews. He was a lovely guy and a great actor."

He had worked at King's Park Secondary school before going on to become an actor.

Over the course of his career, Stevie played a variety of roles including that of the first murderer in Shakespeare's Macbeth, as well as playing Len and Rory Cassidy in two episodes of the TV series, Taggart, between 1995 and 1996.

The late actor's telly career came to an end after he filmed three episodes of Still Game, with his final airing in 2004.

Prior to his death, it is claimed that Stevie had worked as a paramedic for the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A colleague of Stevie's took to Facebook to also share the news with fans, writing: "Stevie Allen unfortunately died yesterday. He was a paramedic with us and will be a huge loss. What a legend of a guy."

"He used to come into the pub I worked in a few years ago in Jedburgh. Lovely bloke," commented a second.

While a third penned: "A vastly underused character in my opinion."
