Woman in her 80s dies during burglary as police launch murder investigation
A murder investigation has been launched after the death of an elderly woman during a robbery at her home.
Police were called to a property in Broomfield, near Bridgwater, Somerset, at around 5.45pm on Monday.
Officers were following report of a burglary in progress and found a woman in her 80s badly injured.
Despite officers and paramedics best efforts, the woman sadly died at the scene.
It comes just days after pensioner Joy Middleditch died when masked burglars burst into her bungalow near Pakefield, Suffolk, in what is now being investigated as a murder.

A police cordon on a road in Somerset, where a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder (SWNS)In the latest case, a man in his 30s was arrested at around 8.40pm in the Broomfield area in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
Flowers have been left at the scene and the woman’s next of kin has been informed. Specially trained family liaison officers will provide them with support.
An Avon a Somerset statement confirmed a "conduct referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct concerning the action taken following a missing person report made earlier in the day".
It added: "Inquiries are continuing into the death of a woman in Somerset on Monday 27 March.
"A murder investigation led by the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) was launched after a woman sadly died at a property in Broomfield, near Bridgwater.
"Officers were initially called to the scene following a report of a burglary in progress at around 5.45pm. On arrival they found a woman in her 80s badly injured and despite the best efforts of paramedics and officers, she did not survive.

"Specialist crime scene investigators are currently examining the property while a forensic post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine how the woman died."
Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Justin French said: "A cordon is in place while enquiries are carried out and there will be increased police activity in the area while a full and thorough investigation is carried out by our Major Crimes Investigations Team.
"We understand that events like this, while rare, may cause alarm and distress in the community.

"We would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to our officers, who will be out on high-visibility patrols of the area, with any concerns and questions they may have.
"Alternatively, you can contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team."
They added: "If you have any information which could aid our investigation, and have yet to speak to officers, please call 101 and quote reference 5223071427 to the call handler."
Meanwhile, the family of Joy Middleditch fear the “monsters” responsible will strike again unless they are caught.
She died two days after thugs burst into her home and knocked her to the ground.
As a manhunt was launched the victim’s great niece, Rebekka Arnold, 30, appealed for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward, saying: “It’s terrifying that these people are still out there.”
