Susanna Reid rolls her eyes at Richard Madeley in 'revolting' GMB debate

Susanna Reid wasn't impressed with Richard Madeley jokes on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain as they interviewed the scientists behind a "mammoth meat" creation.

The ITV presenters spoke to the team behind the world's first meat made from extinct animal DNA but Richard's jokes regarding eating mammoth meatballs were not well received by his co-host.

Introducing the interview, a clip of the meatball was shown to viewers before Richard explained: "That is mammoth meat. That is predominantly extinct meat. What next? Dodo diners, dinosaur dinners?"

Susanna, who is a pescatarian and eats fish but not meat, continued: "What that makes me think, if it is just DNA and it's cultivated in a lab, is there anything actually animal about it? What I mean by that is, could a vegan eat it because it didn't involve killing animals?"

Richard replied: "That's a really good question. We will ask [the team] who did this. Can you eat a mammoth meatball and remain vegan? It's fascinating."

"Or would you grow tusks?" Richard joked as Susanna looked on unimpressed.

The GMB host was seen rolling her eyes at her co-host's comment before smiling at the camera.

Richard and Susanna spoke to the team in Amsterdam who explained they had yet to taste the substance as they were unaware of the dangers the meat could possibly pose.

The team told the Good Morning Britain hosts the mammoth meatball was created to spark debate over the future of food and availability of meat in the future.

GMB viewers were "disgusted" by the segment as one fan tweeted: "Two blokes on #GMB trying to convince us that Woolly Mammoth meat reconstructed using DNA is the food of the future..."

Another wrote: "So basically it is sheep meat with ingredients including tomato with a very small amount of mammoth DNA which makes in inedible. Absolutely pointless & disgusting. #GMB."

"I'm quite worried Richard Madeley is going to just try the mammoth meatball.....We all know Alan would just get in there #gmb #goodmorningbritain," a third said and another added: "Sorry but I could never be so desperate to eat meat that I’d eat genetically created mammoth and elephant meatballs. Revolting #gmb #goodmorningbritain."
