Rose Ayling-Ellis was quick to jump to Giovanni Pernice's defence after awkward British slang gaffe.

Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni left viewers in fits of giggles after he totally failed to grasp what judge Anton Du Beke was talking about as he tried to describe a "budgie smuggler".

It was same light relief after the lothario and girlfriend Jowita Przystal abruptly ended their romance just days after going public.

The oblivious Italian dancer made the brilliant howler on their Adventures in Sicily show and fans loved it.

"How do you say budgie smuggler in Italian?" Anton asked his co-star.

Giovanni quickly quizzed him, asking back: "What is the bunchie smuggler?"

Anton asked for translations for a budgie and then a smuggler, but the hunk had no idea and didn't understand what they two things had in common.

"Why would you call a bird a smuggler?" he queried. "What does it smuggle?!"

Brilliantly, Anton bit back: "The bird isn't the smuggler, the trunks are the smugglers and they're smuggling the contraband in the undergarments".

Sharing the clip with his one million followers, Giovanni added the caption: "Well.. you can’t blame me for that," before urging his fans to tune into the new BBC show.

Rose clearly felt for her friend and headed to the comments to reassure Giovanni that it wasn't "easy."

"Not an easy language," she wrote with a series of laughing faces.

Other fans echoed Rose's commenting, with one writing: "Another moment to remember how bonkers the British language is."
