The devastated family of a teenage girl who died after being electrocuted on a railway line say they will "never be able to overcome" the tragedy.

Roxy Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene in Weymouth, Dorset, after the accident at around 2.25am on Thursday (March 23).

The 15-year-old's loved ones said they want to raise awareness about third rails which are always live in light of what happened.

Roxy was described as "strong willed" and "beautiful", someone who loved animals, especially her horse Bradley.

The statement, released through Dorset Police, said: "As a family we are devastated for the loss of our daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter and cousin, Roxy Phillips.

"Roxy was loved and adored by her friends, we as a family have felt this love through the tributes and kind messages we have received.

"We would like to raise awareness of the dangers of the railway tracks, unknown to most that the third rail is live 24 hours a day all year round.

"This was a tragic accident that we as a family will never be able to overcome. We will always love and miss you, our beautiful Roxy."

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are continuing to investigate the tragic death. They are urging anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible.

BTP said in a statement: "Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Greenway Road, Weymouth, between the hours of 1am and 2.30am, as they may have information which could assist their enquiries.

"Those with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 42 of 23 March."
