It's been a tough season for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side failed to go far in the FA Cup, Champions League and Carabao Cup... and their Premier League form isn't much better. The Reds are sixth in the table - seven points behind Tottenham in fourth - and in danger of being absent from UEFA's primary club competition next term. They do have two games in hand on Spurs, however.

Liverpool fans will be enjoying some respite during the international break, but it won't be long until their campaign resumes. Ahead of Liverpool's trip to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City next Saturday, here are the latest headlines from Merseyside.

Liverpool's loan report

The Reds have 12 players currently out on loan - including Tyler Morton, Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and Sepp van den Berg.

One of their most exciting youngsters is left-back Luke Chambers, who has impressed at Kilmarnock since making a temporary switch in January. The 18-year-old was part of the England squad that won the U19 Euros last summer and will be hoping to make his Liverpool debut soon, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas ahead of him in the pecking order.

Liverpool's regretful ex-stars

Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in Europe - but that doesn't stop players from wanting to leave Anfield every now and again.

In recent years, the likes of Phillippe Coutinho, Emre Can and Sadio Mane have turned their back on Klopp's side - joining Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich respectively - but did those superstars make the right decision? Some critics will argue no.

Haaland injury update

Erling Haaland's dad has provided an update on his son's fitness ahead of Liverpool's daunting game against Man City at the Etihad.

Haaland, 22, is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe after scoring 42 goals in 37 games for Guardiola's side this season. Klopp will not be looking forward to facing the Norwegian, who picked up a groin injury during Man City's win against Burnley last time out.

Right now, it is unclear whether Haaland will be fit to face Liverpool. His dad Alfie, who represented the likes of Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Man City during his playing days, believes it is "touch and go" whether his son will feature against the Reds.

"Manchester City has a partnership with a hospital in Barcelona so he has been there for further checks and treatment," Alfie told TV2 Sport, as quoted by The Times.

"Now he has been here [Marbella] for a couple of days with the physio from the club. Firstly, I'm not a doctor and secondly, I think it's 'touch and go', yes. You can't just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight. There must be a progression there.

"They can gamble on it, but if he doesn’t get proper training with the team, then he won't play. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days. He needs a lot of care."
