Bayern Munich made the decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann so they did not miss out on the services of Thomas Tuchel to Tottenham, it has been claimed.

The German giants made the decision to jettison the former RB Leipzig boss during the international break despite being just one point off the top of the Bundesliga and still in the Champions League. The decision to sack Nagelsmann brings to an end a near two-year spell for him at the Allianz Arena.

He had helped Bayern to the Bundesliga title and two German Super Cups in that time but with a battle on their hands to continue their domestic dominance, the club has made the call to change head coach. Former Chelsea boss Tuchel is reportedly at the front of the queue to replace his compatriot and it appears that his availability forced the hierarchy in Bavaria to make a decision quicker than usual.

As per Sky Sport Germany, the German had received approaches from both Tottenham and Real Madrid recently with both clubs having a decision to make over their own managers. Current Spurs boss Antonio Conte is under growing pressure following his brutal outburst and appears likely to leave.

Meanwhile, there is talk over Carlo Ancelotti ’s future in Madrid with Real having failed to really challenge Barcelona at the top of LaLiga. The pair were interested in potentially appointing Tuchel as a replacement but Bayern have jumped in first after believing that he may not be available come the summer.

His appointment at the club will see his first return to Germany since leaving Bayern’s great rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2017. He had initially arrived at the Westfalenstadion after a spell with Mainz.

The 49-year-old claimed a solitary German Cup before successful spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. H e only left Stamford Bridge in September as Todd Boehly wielded the axe just over a year after Tuchel had helped the Blues to their second European crown.

Taking to Twitter shortly after he left Stamford Bridge, he said: “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years.

“I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end. This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever. I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

It remains to be seen now where Spurs' plans stand on a new manager. Conte remains in Italy during the international break with Mauricio Pochettino having been touted for a return to North London.
