Tesco has expanded its same-day delivery service to 1,000 of its Express stores.

The big four supermarket says the expansion of its Whoosh service has exceeded its rollout target by 25%.

Tesco had originally set a target to offer Whoosh from 800 of its stores by the end of February 2023, but has exceeded that target by 200 shops.

This was equivalent to a new Whoosh store opening every 11 hours since the beginning of March.

Whoosh delivery is now available from over half of Tesco’s estate of Express convenience stores across the UK.

The 1,000th Tesco store to introduce the service was the Hammersmith Olympia Express store in London.

Tesco's Whoosh service was first launched in 2021 and offered a delivery within 60 minutes.

Last year the service was offered in 600 stores nationwide with delivery time dropped to just 30 minutes.

The delivery service aims to get groceries to you between 30 minutes to an hour after ordering them.

Whoosh offers customers the chance to order food or snacks from a list of 2,500 to 4,500 products in as little as 30 minutes.

Each Whoosh delivery costs £2.99 each, with an extra charge of £2 added if your order is under £15.

There isn't a minimum spend on a Whoosh order either so in theory you could do your weekly shop with the service and get it in half an hour.

Tesco reports usage of the Whoosh service has increased by 30% this year.

Greg Bertrand, Head of Whoosh at Tesco said: "Our Whoosh service is rolling out at a rapid pace, opening in two Express stores a day on average this year.

"We’ve beaten our own target and we are seeing growing evidence that customers love the quality, speed and convenience of the service."

“We are getting faster, and our availability is at a consistently high level. Whether it is a missing ingredient as you start to prepare a meal or ordering the Finest meal deal to eat that night, Whoosh can quickly come to the rescue.”

As it grows, Tesco has added new elements to its Whoosh delivery service.

It has added new features to the app such as a 15-minute delivery window estimate and live tracking of the rider on a map.
