You could soon be whizzing through the clouds on a Really Cool Airlines plane.

Airlines have a long history of opting for quite literal and description names.

It is simply enough to work out how British Airways, easyJet and Pakistan International Airlines got their names.

A new entrant to the aviation industry has gone for an even more on the nose approach by naming itself Really Cool Airlines.

The radically named company is set to announce its flight routes by the end of June and begin operations by the end of the year, its CEO Patee Sarasin said on Tuesday.

The carrier, which is based in Thailand, will focus on international flights and has a slogan of “We Fly the Future”.

It is not currently clear what makes the airline so cool.

Although the countries it will be operating between have yet to be announced, if you're heading on a holiday to south Asia there's a decent chance you could end up onboard a Really Cool Airlines flight.

The experience will be midway between a luxury and budget carrier, Mr Patee said.

“We are excited and ready to introduce Really Cool Airlines to give an extraordinary experience to passengers,” he told reporters, Strait Times reported.

Fingers are crossed that the company has more success than Mr Patee's last venture, Nok.

The boss had to personally apologise a number of times when thousands of passengers were stranded in 2016 because many flights were cancelled.

The airline struggled to keep its planes in the air when pilots began quitting in their droves.

It is hoped Really Cool Airlines will help bump up visitor numbers to Thailand.

The country's tourism board hopes to attract 30 million foreign visitors this year, about 80 per cent of the 39 million that arrived during the pre-Covid-19 year of 2019.

It was reported last week that Really Cool Airlines was one of four companies that were seeking licences to operate in Thailand.
