A Waitrose shopper was recently outraged after discovering feathers on a chicken he'd bought from his local branch, and decided to complain. Unfortunately, a number of people didn't have much sympathy for his plight, urging him to "just pull them out and get it eaten".

Unimpressed customer Gary purchased the £6.90 garlic and herb whole chicken from a Waitrose store, and only noticed feathers on the wing and leg after he'd already cooked the meat.

Repulsed that the bird apparently hadn't been plucked to his satisfaction, Gary, who has become "accustomed to great quality products from Waitrose", took to social media to air his grievances – but not everybody was on his side.

Calling Waitrose out directly, fuming Gary wrote: "I am accustomed to great quality products from Waitrose. But I have recently been let down by the poor preparation of the whole chicken I recently purchased.

"Feathers were still present on the wings and legs. In my opinion, this is not only unhygienic but just unacceptable. I expect feathers to be completely removed from the chicken, especially as it is already seasoned and ready for cooking. I am very disappointed."

The post quickly drew a series of sarcastic remarks, with one fellow shopper commenting: "Wait until you discover the bones."

Another eye-rolled: "Breaking. Birds have feathers."

Others felt it was a pretty small matter to kick up a fuss over in the grand scheme of things, with a third deadpanning: "I'm sure the people of Ukraine feel really bad about your situation with the chicken. Thoughts and prayers hun."

A fourth drolled: "And they say nurses have it tough. Thoughts and prayers."

A fifth person advised him to "just pull them out and get it eaten", reasoning that "a few feathers really aren't worth whining about."

The Mirror has since reached out to Waitrose for comment.
