The little girl sent a message of hope by Mirror campaigner Max Johnson is on the urgent transplant list after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The parents of Evie Green are praying for a miracle after she had a mechanical Berlin heart fitted in emergency surgery.

The three-year-old is in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, where Max received a new heart in 2017.

Surgeons, who fitted Evie with a left ventricular assist device, carried out a UK donor check before putting her on the urgent list.

Mum Chloe, 27, said: “She suffered a cardiac arrest but CPR brought her back.”

Her daughter was “gone for two minutes”.

Evie, of Middlesbrough, has dilated cardiomyopathy which means the left ventricle of her heart is enlarged.

Chloe said: “The Berlin heart is to bridge her to transplant. She will not leave hospital until someone gives her this gift.” Last week the Mirror told how Max’s parents Paul, 49, and Emma, 52, of Winsford, Cheshire, sent their “love and prayers” to Evie.

Chloe said: “The message was lovely.”

She thanked the transplant team, including surgeon Louise Kennedy, who saved Evie’s life in the op on Saturday.

Chloe said Evie was in a comfortable state last night while Middlesbrough FC has shared a post about her.

The mum, whose netball club Cleveland Classics is raising funds for the family, added her girl has had an op to “close” her chest after her surgery.

Chloe and hubby David, 35, also have son Theo, five.

The mum believes Max and Keira’s Law, brought in 2021 after
a Mirror campaign, has helped organ transplant recipients due to the new opt-out donor scheme.

Chloe said: “It is good that people know about the process.”
