Good Morning Britain's North American correspondent Noel Phillips was awkwardly rejected from entering Sir Elton John's star-studded Oscars party live on air on Monday morning.

Noel was on the champagne-coloured Academy Awards carpet early on Monday morning as he interviewed the stars of the silver screen.

Noel spoke with co-hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid live in the studio from the Hollywood event as he was blocked by security from entering the party.

Noel said: "We're going to try and see if we can get into the party. Apparently Emma Watson and Donatella Versace and a few famous people are in there. Let's see if we can gatecrash the party."

As he approached the entrance, the security guard held up his hand and said: "Sir, the party is over. No entry, please."

Thinking fast, Noel said: "Oh, but Elton said we can come in?" Smiling, the guard said: "No, you can't."

Noel turned on his heels and said to the GMB camera: "We did try, guys. We did try."

Sitting in the London studio, Susanna then chipped in: "Looks like someone's about to close the curtains behind you there, Noel. What a shame. You did your best."

It came after earlier in this programme, Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount had colourful language for the Conservative government as he spoke with Noel on the red carpet at the Academy Awards ceremony.

Noel spoke with the Emily in Paris star about the BBC's impartiality row with Gary Lineker and he simply turned to the camera and said: “F*** the Tories,” which was bleeped out in the ITV pre-recorded clip and appeared to flip the camera the finger as his hand was blurred.

Correspondent Noel Phillips told hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid in the studio: “The Oscars might have been a slightly quieter affair with no punches thrown, but it was still a historic night.”

He continued: “It’s worth saying this year’s ceremony wasn't the most memorable or eventful, which will be a huge relief to the Academy, especially after the last 12 months they have had.

“Nonetheless it was an historic night. We saw Everything Everywhere All At Once winning seven of its 11 nominations.

“Here on the red carpet, one storyline which got a lot of guests talking about as they walked down this champagne-coloured carpet was the row between the BBC and Gary Lineker.”
