Liverpool star Mohamed Salah ’s villa in Cairo has been burgled, reports from Egypt have claimed.

It has been reported that Salah’s nephew returned to the villa this weekend to find it had been ransacked by burglars. Local police were immediately contacted and when they entered the villa they found items strewn all around the building while several other items were stolen.

It comes the same weekend as Salah blasted his penalty against Bournemouth wide of goal as Jurgen Klopp’s side fell to a shock defeat on the South Coast. The 30-year-old failed to find the target from 12 yards to pass up his side’s best opportunity of the game.

The player’s miserable weekend has been compounded after news filtered through from his home nation. As reported by Al-Ahram, the Reds forward’s nephew is said to have raised the alarm after initially discovering that the window had been left open.

It has not yet been confirmed as to which items were stolen from the property, but it has been suggested that “electrical” items and “devices” were taken from the villa.

"The surrounding surveillance cameras are being unloaded, and the security personnel in charge of securing the place are being interrogated," a source told Al-Ahram. "The security services are intensifying their efforts to solve the mystery of the incident, and the necessary legal measures have been taken."

Salah is arguably Egypt’s best and most famed footballer ever, and has attracted nicknames such as the "the Egyptian King" and "the Pharaoh" for his dynamic performances and leadership. He has scored 49 goals in 87 international caps for the North African nation.

Regarded as a quick, mobile, hard-working and tactical player, with good technique and an eye for goal, Salah has enjoyed a stellar career at the top level which has accelerated since his switch to Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017.

He has gone on to score 178 goals across five-and-a-half seasons at Anfield, a spell which has seen him win every trophy on offer at the club, including the Champions League crown in 2019 and the Premier League title the following year.

Salah has come agonisingly close to glory with Egypt on several occasions, twice finishing as a runner-up in the Africa Cup of Nations in both 2018 and 2022. Egypt lost the latter final on a penalty shootout to Senegal, who also defeated them on spot kicks in their World Cup qualification playoff match months later.
