Mick Schumacher has pulled at the heartstrings of F1 fans by sharing two poignant photos that include dad Michael and Sebastian Vettel.

The Schumacher family continue to keep the condition of the seven-time world champion private, following his high impact skiing accident in 2013 that left him with long term head injuries. The 54-year-old continues to be treated at the family home in Switzerland, with wife Corinna providing round the clock care.

But his legacy in the sport remains strong. The first German driver to ever win the world championship back in 1994, Vettel joined him in the record books by winning four titles of his own from 2010-2013, before Nico Rosberg then prevailed in 2016.

And on Thursday morning, Schumacher Jr shared two of Vettel's photos from different generations. The first dated back to when the now 35-year-old was a skinny youth, dressed in a Red Bull polo shirt and cap, while the then Ferrari -based Schumacher smiled with his arm around him.

The second photo was modern day, with Mick himself posting with Vettel. The caption read: "Friendship from one generation to the next," with @raceofchampions credited with taking the pictures.

The post was enough to play on the emotions of F1 fans, with @avril12.jpg writing: "Thanks! I’ll be crying for the next 4-5 business days." @thenotoriousfatman_ added: "Who cutting onions here?" while @kristin.adam.378 added: "Crying alert."

Mick has continued the family legacy in F1, despite losing his seat at Haas at the end of 2022 following two difficult seasons. He currently serves as a reserve driver at Mercedes, serving as stand in to George Russell and Lewis Hamilton - the only man to have matched his father's number of titles.

Admitting he found it difficult to watch the season opener in Bahrain from the pit lane, he told reporters: "I've been sat on this stool there with my hands and my arms and just felt like the day was never going to end because I just wanted to jump into the car."

Vettel meanwhile, retired at the end of 2022 having finished his career with Aston Martin. The F1 icon made 300 Grand Prix starts in his career, just behind the total of 308 racked up by Schumacher Snr.
