Former EastEnders actress Rita Simons has shared a health update after undergoing a total hysterectomy earlier this year.
The actress, who was known for her role as Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap, shared an inspirational International Woman's Day post as she revealed the journey she's been on since undergoing the surgery in January.
The actress had previously spoken about her debilitating and irregular periods, which worsened her OCD and anxiety and had stopped her from being able to work.
In a post to her 485,000 followers on Wednesday (March 8), Rita described her recovery as "an absolute RIDE" as she revealed she isn't better yet but is on her way.
Rita underwent a total hysterectomy in January (Instagram)Sharing a picture of herself from a hospital bed with no makeup and a tube up her nose to aid oxygen, Rita wrote: "Weeks ago tomorrow I had a total hysterectomy. Nothing says #happyinternationalwomensday like me sharing a pic of me off my nut on morphine with no ovaries! It’s been an absolute RIDE trying to get the #HRT as close to my old self as we can find.

"It’s STILL a fkn ride! Not there yet but on my way. Physically I have been really strict getting back into the gym and having my regular IV drips."
She continued: "Physically I couldn’t be in better nick thanks to @nutrizen_iv_vitamins and my #nad+ and I have been in touch with so many gorgeous women who’ve reached out with their own #hysterectomy stories which keeps me from feeling alone in this.
"Happy #internationalwomensday to all my ladies."

Fellow EastEnders star Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Slater, commented: "But your skin looks AMAZING JOAN! That’s the most most important thing!"

At first after speaking to a consultant for help, Rita was given hormones, including oestrogen and progesterone – but it ended up making her feel extremely sick.
