Olive Nicholls, the 17-year-old daughter of 13-time champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls, has become the latest member of the family to ride a winner.

The teenager secured her first victory under rules when she guided Magic Saint, trained by her father, to win a hunter chase on her local track at Wincanton on Wednesday.

On only her seventh ride under rules she steered the 8-11 favourite to a comfortable 13 lengths success.

“I got the usual, lots of instructions, but always to have fun and I definitely did on Magic Saint,” the amateur told Racing TV.

“It’s amazing, especially as I had my first ride here under rules and it’s a local track to home. It’s great to be back and to have my first winner."

Paul Nicholls, 60, was a successful jockey during the 1980s before becoming a prolific-winning trainer.

He has trained more 3.500 winners, won the Cheltenham Gold Cup four times, the Grand National and has a record 13 wins in the King George VI Chase, five with the great Kauto Star.

He eldest daughter Megan Nicholls rode 110 winners on the Flat before retiring from the saddle last summer. She now regularly appears on ITV Racing and Racing TV.
