One of the great inventions of the modern age was the self-service till, allowing you to grab a few items and go without waiting in big queues of people doing their weekly shop.

The only downside is for those who still want to use cash, the tiny slot for putting coins in can be fiddly and leave you struggling to get all your coins in. There's nothing more embarrassing than fumbling on the floor to pick up a 50p that you dropped while trying to get it into the machine.

This is no longer the case if you're an Asda shopper as one helpful TikToker has share a sneaky little hack to pay without fiddling with the coin slot.

Revealing the simple hack, @bethanyjade_st posted a video of her paying at an Asda self-service check out with coins. Instead of pushing the coins through the slot, she lifts the black plastic surrounding and inserts her coins into the larger funnel beneath.

This makes it much easier and quicker to pay and the machine still counts all the coins, she said: "I was today years old when I found out this life hack. Just lift the flap and let it count your money!"

She added: "I love this hack and need to share it."

It's unknown if this helpful trick is universal to all supermarkets but the video appears to show the green of an Asda machine.

Some comments were thrilled with the sneaky insight, one said: "Oh my goodness - I never knew" while another added: "Your level of quality work is excellent."

Others were less convinced, concerned about breaking the machine - a comment read: "This can literally break the machine. Don't do it."

Bethany replied to this, saying: "Recently found this out, and apparently it’s how the people that work there fill it up with coins too."

The commenter hit back, adding: "It's really not trust me, I did Sainsbury's for nearly 6 years. Doing this jams them."

Since the machine needs to count the coins so as long as you don't tip them all in at the same time this should be fine, it just prevents the fiddly nature of the coin slot.

One commenter gave their own hack and wrote: "If you tip in a load of 1s and 2s (has to be less than the value of your shopping) then press "cancel payment" it gives you it back in paper/silver."

A few people simply told Bethany to use contactless as it was "much better hack" and that "cash is so old school now."
