Love Island has smashed the £20million barrier for the first time with sales of show merchandise, the Mirror can reveal.

The show is famous for featuring white water bottles and white suitcases branded with neon pink writing of the contestants’ individual names.

Viewers have been able to snap up the branded goods since 2017.

And insiders say the £20million milestone has now been hit thanks to this latest series.

One said: “It just shows the extraordinary popularity of the show over the years. The demand is incredible every year…so it’s little surprise £20million has been hit.”

The items are so popular, sales of replica water bottles costing £20 are expected to surpass the 1 million mark during this series.

They first went on sale in 2017, with viewers flocking to a Love Island online shop to buy and personalise their own bottles.

The white and neon pink design was introduced in season 2 back in 2016, as a functional production measure to ensure the water bottles were reusable and individually identifiable, while keeping the Islanders hydrated.

The design has proved so popular, spinoff items including tote bags, pet bowls, washbags, robes, suitcases, baby beakers, Christmas stockings and phone cases can now all be purchased featuring the neon script.

The suitcases the contestants use are available to buy at £58 or £85, depending on size.

As this series launched, William van Rest, Director of Gaming, Live and Merchandise at ITV, said: “The Official Love Island Water Bottle has been a smash hit with viewers, and is now often spotted at festivals, in offices, in schools, around campuses, on zoom calls, at gyms and at airports. “They’re the must-have hydration accessory.”
