Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville are not on the same page regarding Everton's next manager.
The Toffees sacked Frank Lampard on Monday following their defeat at West Ham at the weekend. The reverse leaves them in the bottom three of the Premier League as the club face the prospect of another relegation battle. Everton have a fortnight until they play again, giving them time to find a new boss.
Owner Farhad Moshiri has been through a host of managers including Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez - all of whom have failed to make the grade. Neville is adamant the Merseysiders should pick a manager who suits their players and identity, but Carragher doesn't believe its possible.
Marcelo Bielsa and Sean Dyche are the two leading candidates to take over at Goodison Park. Both bosses have Premier League experience, but they go about their business in very different ways. That led to Neville questioning how they could be the two names in the frame, given their contrasting styles.
Neville said on Sky Sports: "How can you have Bielsa and Dyche? Let's say that was the shortlist, it wouldn't surprise you that shortlist that we've seen before - Koeman, Allardyce, Benitez, Ancelotti..."

Carragher hit back: "I hear this all the time and I feel for clubs when they're picking managers because they say they're completely different. Have you picked the same manager every time you pick a manager for Salford? The exact same?"

Sean Dyche and Marcelo Bielsa are both candidates to take charge at EvertonNeville, though, maintained that "the idea is you settle on a manager that will fit the style of the players". His colleague commented on how certain clubs have lurched from managers with their own ideals to ones who are more pragmatic, highlighting how people making the decisions do change their approach to hiring managers.
Former Manchester United right-back Neville added: "Clubs have to pick an identity, pick a group of players that fit an identity then pick a coach in that fits that style. That's the ideal way, [it is] not always right, but Everton have moved from one end of the spectrum to the other, they've got no consistency, they're all over the place and I have to say you have to start looking at the players to be fair."
Everton have made Bielsa their main target, with the Argentine out of a job since he was axed at Leeds around 12 months ago. He secured promotion whilst with the Whites, finishing as high as ninth at Elland Road, with his style of play earning plenty of praise, but was sacked as the club were threatened by relegation last season.
