Royal Mail has launched an investigation after a bride-to-be claimed her engagement ring, which carries deep sentimental value, was ’stolen’ after being sent to a Birmingham workshop.
Nadya Giffen, who is due to marry in October, claims the missing ring is ’unique’ and irreplaceable because it belonged to her mum, who died suddenly when she was just 14.
The ring was originally bought by Nadya’s dad for her mum, who wore it until she passed away shortly before her 40th birthday.
Nadya, 46, says her father later died "of a broken heart".
"I had kept the ring safe for all these years, waiting for when I met my special person," said Nadya.
She claimed: "I’m devastated that my ring has been stolen."
Nadya believes the alleged theft occurred after her jeweller, based in Harpenden, sent the ring to a Birmingham workshop to have a new stone fitted.
"It was sent by my jeweller to her workshop to have a new stone set as one had fallen out," she said.
"The package was received by Hemel sorting office to go on to Birmingham.
"It was sent by special delivery on July 2 and was due to arrive at the workshop on Saturday morning at 9am - but it never arrived.
"My jeweller alerted Royal Mail to this, and they started to investigate."

Royal Mail confirmed to BirminghamLive that it had launched a "full investigation" into the disappearance of the ring, saying it was taking the matter "extremely seriously".
Nadya said she believes the postal service should be able to identify what happened because of tracking and security measures in place.
She added: "Royal Mail appear to be taking it seriously and according to them, they have CCTV everywhere.
"However, if this is the case, how have they not found it yet?
"They have a record of every person on shift, every person that handles special deliveries, right down to timings."
Nadya said the ring’s disappearance had been made even more painful by the timing, as the anniversary of her mum’s death came just a few days later on July 11.
"Her engagement ring was symbolic of true love," said Nadya.
"My dad died of a broken heart - he simply couldn’t live without her.
"I had kept hold of the ring in the hope that one day I too would find the kind of love they had."
Nadya said she was "lucky" to have "find that kind of love" when she met her fiancé, Richard.
She added: "I am desperate to get it back. It is of deep sentimental value to me.
"It’s so distinctive, even more so with a missing diamond.
"Whoever took it won’t be able to do anything with it due to it being so recognisable.
"If anyone knows anything about its whereabouts, I would plead with them to come forward or please just return it."
A Royal Mail spokesperson told BirminghamLive: "We understand the deep sentimental importance of this ring and how distressing its disappearance is for Nadya.
“We’re treating this matter extremely seriously and our security team is carrying out a full investigation.
"We remain in direct contact with the customer and will continue to update them as our enquiries progress.”
