A “major incident” has been declared after a bus crash left dozens of people injured.

Emergency services raced to the A484 in Carmarthenshire, Wales, after reports of a collision involving a public bus shortly after midday.

Shocking pictures show the vehicle flipped on its side in a field next to the road.

A source told WalesOnline that at least 26 people were hurt in the crash.

Two air ambulances raced to the scene as police, firefighters, and paramedics launched a major emergency response.

All passengers have since been removed from the bus and are receiving care, cops later confirmed.

A police van, officer, and "Road Closed" sign block off a road due to a major incident.

Motorists have been warned to avoid the area as police carry out inquiries into what happened.

The closure is expected to remain in place for some time.

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesperson told The Sun: “Our Dafen and Caernarfon-based crews were first allocated at 12:33 and our Dafen helicopter arrived first at the scene at 12:50.

“Both crews cleared the scene by 14:15.”

A police spokesperson said: “Police, ambulance and fire services remain at the scene of the bus collision on the A484 in Kidwelly, following a report received at 12.20pm today (23 June).

“All passengers have been safely removed from the bus and are receiving appropriate care.”

“Members of the public are advised to find alternative travel routes until further notice. If you are stuck in traffic due to a road closure, please take steps to stay safe in the heat.”

Dame Nia Griffith, MP for Llanelli – which includes Kidwelly – said her thoughts were with those involved.

“My immediate thoughts are with all those people who were involved in the crash, and the emergency services who are helping them,” she said.

“I would reiterate the official request for the public to stay away and find alternative routes to the Parc y Bocs roundabout to Llandyfaelog Road.”
