At the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Prague (Czechia), the Czech Police’s National Organised Crime Agency (NCOZ) detained 12 persons and carried out 42 searches in the regions of Prague, Central Bohemia, and South Moravia.
This is part of an investigation into procurement and subsidy fraud involving several projects of one of the major healthcare providers in the Central Bohemia Region.
It is alleged that since November 2023, some employees and managers of a hospital are believed to have unlawfully influenced public procurement procedures and provided unfair advantages to specific companies and a business operator as preselected suppliers.
These actions allegedly led to the wrongful awarding of contracts for various construction works and the acquisition of sophisticated medical technology. In total, these contracts are valued at over €11.5 million (280 million CZK).
To gather further evidence, police officers searched the suspects’ homes and other premises. The 12 detained suspects were released after the evidence was safeguarded.
All persons concerned are presumed innocent until proven guilty in the competent Czech courts of law.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU.
