A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a baby girl died on Saturday.
The youngster, believed to be just 14 weeks old, was rushed to hospital on Saturday but tragically passed away. Police and paramedics were called to North Reddish in Stockport, Greater Manchester, just before 11 am after reports of a ’concern for welfare’.
The Manchester Evening News reports the infant was hurried to hospital from the scene but died.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed a 35-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody.
She remains in custody, police said. A scene remains in place on the street and an investigation is underway.
A spokesperson for GMP said the probe is in its ’early stages’ with officers ’keeping an open mind’. In a statement, the force spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to reports of a concern for welfare in North Reddish at 10:51 am on Saturday, 18 April.
"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the baby sadly died at the hospital. A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and is in custody.
"A scene will remain in place whilst we conduct our investigation, which is still in its early stages. We are keeping an open mind and following all available lines of inquiry at this time."
