Jet2 flight LS896 diverted as two passengers’ “appalling behaviour” sparks onboard fight

Two disruptive passengers were ejected from a Jet2 flight bound for Manchester by Belgian authorities after a brawl broke out in mid-air. The pair have been banned by the airline due to their ’appalling behaviour’ as footage of the fight shows chaos on board.

Video footage of the incident doing the rounds on social media suggests numerous other travellers became entangled in the fracas during flight LS896 from Antalya, Turkey, on Thursday evening (February 12). One clip seemingly captures three men positioned in the aircraft’s aisle, with one lunging to snatch a passenger’s mobile phone before attempting to grab the face of the individual ahead of him.

The passenger at the heart of the commotion seems to be shoved backwards, whilst another man tries to calm the situation - only for a passenger standing further away to begin gesturing towards someone else. That individual then seemingly pushes the initial man involved in the disturbance before reaching out to seize him.

Other passengers appeared to get caught up

Travellers can be heard yelling in the clip, with one man shouting: "Get back."

Several other passengers then seem to get drawn into the scuffle, including a woman who rises from her seat, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Shortly afterwards, one passenger can be spotted in a headlock from another traveller on-board, whilst a member of cabin crew is visible guiding the first man involved towards the rear of the aircraft. Other passengers can be observed standing up monitoring the situation, whilst multiple shouts and screams ring out.

In the closing moments of the footage - which contains edited sections - a police officer can be observed lifting one passenger from the floor, whilst another is heard repeatedly shouting: "Time to go, time to go."

Officers boarded the aircraft after it was compelled to reroute to Brussels, with the Jet2 service eventually arriving in Manchester during the late evening hours.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: "Flight LS896 from Antalya to Manchester diverted to Brussels yesterday, due to the appalling behaviour of two disruptive passengers. They were both offloaded by police in Brussels and the flight continued to Manchester.

"We can confirm that the two disruptive passengers will be banned from flying with us for life, and we will also vigorously pursue them to recover the costs that we incurred as a result of this diversion. As a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour, and we are very sorry that other customers and our colleagues onboard had to experience this too."
