Emergency response at Hammersmith station as TfL confirms casualty on the track

Hammersmith Underground station in London was swarmed by emergency services this morning after reports of a person on the track. Witnesses said the station was closed off, and passengers were redirected to nearby stops as police, paramedics and firefighters filled the area.

Photos from the scene show multiple police vehicles, ambulances, fire engines and Incident Response Units gathered outside the station, creating what witnesses described as a moment of “chaos”.

Witness Nick Soar said emergency crews were “rushing with care” to help those involved. “My thoughts are very much with any injured people and the emergency services, who I’m sure are facing horrible scenes. All very brave,” he said. He added that TfL staff were guiding people “helpfully and compassionately” to alternative routes, with shutters down on the District and Piccadilly line entrances and signs advising travellers to “make alternative arrangements”.

Another witness reported seeing three ambulances, three fire engines, two police cars and two Incident Response Units. Paramedics were described as “rushing in” with equipment at around 8:36am.

Transport for London has since confirmed that there was a casualty on the track.

The incident caused delays on the District line between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway, while Piccadilly line services later resumed between Acton Town and Hyde Park Corner. Hammersmith station has now reopened, and trains are once again stopping there.
