An 8-year-old boy was brutally stabbed at a school in Melbourne, with an 11-year-old boy questioned over the incident.
An 11-year-old boy is being questioned over the incident, which reportedly happened at Brentwood Park Primary School in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday morning before the school bell rang. Both Brentwood and Kambrya College, a nearby secondary school also on Bemersyde Drive, were placed into lockdown at about 9am.
Victoria Police said the victim and a staff member, who also suffered minor injuries, were treated by paramedics on school grounds and did not require hospital treatment.
The boy, believed to be in Year 6, allegedly attacked a teacher before also assaulting a Year 2 pupil and a Year 3 pupil. Two other kitchen knives were allegedly found in his bag. Police spoke to the child suspect before he was taken to hospital for assessment.
An education department spokesperson said it was working with the school following an incident involving a young pupil who acted in a "dangerous manner".
"The school enacted its safety procedures, and police and paramedics attended the school," the spokesperson said. "We are supporting both the staff member and the student and are providing additional wellbeing supports to those who need it."
