Premier Insurance collapse leaves 16,000 motorists needing new cover

Premier Insurance Company Limited, a Gibraltar-based insurer that provided car and motorcycle insurance policies for UK customers, entered administration last month

Thousands of motorists have been advised to arrange alternative motor insurance after a provider’s collapse.

Premier Insurance Company Limited, a Gibraltar-based insurer that offered car and motorcycle insurance policies for UK customers, went into administration last month.

Individuals holding a policy with the company will see it expire on December 1, necessitating the arrangement of new coverage. It is understood that Premier Insurance had around 16,000 individual customers and small businesses on its files.

The Financial Conduct Authority confirmed that affected policyholders would be contacted by brokers to discuss securing replacement coverage.

Premier Insurance stopped offering new insurance policies in January 2025. Freddie White and Bradley Chadwick of Grant Thornton have been appointed as joint administrators.

Premier Insurance has halted the settlement of claims - instead, customers will be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

The FSCS is an independent organization that protects consumers when a financial services firm goes into collapse and cannot meet claims against it.
