Five people have been taken to the hospital after a “chemical spill” at a school.

Police, firefighters, and paramedics rushed to Biddulph High School, Staffordshire, at 10:35 am today after students were “exposed to a chemical substance”.

The school said on its Facebook page that “an issue was identified with a piece of science equipment”.

But reassured parents that “the emergency services were called and normal procedures were followed.”

The chemical has since been isolated and the building ventilated.

Paramedics treated six patients after being called to the West Midlands school.

Five casualties, three teenagers and two adults, have been taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The sixth casualty was treated and discharged at the scene.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called following reports of a chemical spill.

“Two paramedic officers, an ambulance, and specialist paramedics responded to the scene.

“Crews arrived to find six patients requiring assessment after being exposed to a chemical substance.

“A man, a woman, and three teenagers were treated at the scene before being conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further precautionary checks.

“Three appliances attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“The chemical was isolated, and the building was ventilated.”

Biddulph High School has confirmed “the site is safe for normal operations to continue.”
