Eighteen-year-old sentenced to 10 years for sexually abusing children at nursery

A teen nursery worker who carried out a sick sex attack on a three-year-old boy in a school toilet has been sentenced for a series of offences.

Thomas Waller, 18, was a newly qualified nursery worker when he preyed on his young victims at a school where he worked, with the court hearing he had built a rapport with one three-year-old over Paw Patrol before sexually attacking him, alone, in the toilet.

The tot’s mum branded him a "very dangerous individual," adding his acts were "very frightening" while speaking with BBC South East. She told the broadcaster: "That he can do this at such a young age and in such a calculated way, I find very frightening."

The mum added that she had discovered what Waller had done to her son after he told her that he had been abused in a toilet at his school "in three-year-old terms." She said: "He told me, in three-year-old terms, that he’d been sexually assaulted at nursery by one of the staff, which was very shocking for me to hear."

"On hearing that, I stayed very calm and asked him some questions about what he was telling me to try to get him to repeat it, and I was really questioning him in different ways to see if his story would stay the same and consistent, which it did.

"In fact, he was adding more and more explanation of what happened." The mum, who was not identified, added that she had then informed the nursery, with staff then reporting the incident to police, who arrested Waller the same evening.

Waller from Surrey, was found guilty at Staines Magistrates Court rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and taking indecent images of children on October 31 following a trial in which it was heard he had abused children as young as three. The teen, who appeared at Staines Magistrates Court, was told the offences carried out in 2024 were so severe that he would need to be sentenced at crown court.

Waller was told by a district judge that he could expect a nearly 20-year sentence for the horrors he inflicted on young children. In one vile attack, he abused a young boy in a toilet at his nursery.

He was today jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of raping and sexually abusing children as young as three. Waller, now 18, from Surrey, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court today. He was convicted on October 31 of multiple horrific offences that took place in 2024, including rape, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and taking indecent images of children.

In a sentencing note following the conviction, CPS barrister Rio Pahlavanpour advised Waller’s crimes were "too serious to be dealt with by the youth court". He said: "I had said that, were he an adult, for the most serious offence he would receive a sentence of 13 years - that range being between 11 and 17 [years]."

The teen was confronted by journalists last month after leaving the court following his sentence, with cameras capturing belligerent Waller refusing to speak.
