Five-year-old boy dies after wall collapse at London crazy golf venue

Sidcup Family Golf in Chislehurst, southeast London has been closed since the boy and a six-year-old girl were injured on Sunday evening. The two children were at a birthday party held at the golf venue which is home to a 46-bay, multi-tier driving range and two outdoor dinosaur-themed crazy golf courses.

The six-year-old girl has been discharged from the hospital. Sidcup Family Golf said: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear that the child injured on Sunday has tragically passed away. ‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. ‘We are cooperating fully with the authorities as they continue their investigation and are providing every possible support to those affected by this tragedy.’ Sidcup Family Golf dqxikeidqkikdinv

A wall collapsed at Sidcup Family Golf on Sunday, injuring two children

Colin Williams, 67, who plays at the club where there is a driving range as well as a children’s adventure park, told Metro: ‘I’m in utter shock. I’ve turned up to go to the club shop and can’t believe it. The poor boy and his family.

I have three grandchildren, it’s so terrible. ‘It’s such a friendly club and the kids’ area is very popular. To turn up and see police here just is awful. I’m shaken by this.’ The gates of the golf center are padlocked and officials huddled together as they analyze how the incident could have happened. A girl was also injured but is out of the hospital. Another golfer said: ‘This is a very well-run, friendly place. To think that kids at a party were injured here is just such a shock and my heart goes out to the families affected.’ A witness told News Shopper that staff at the center worked quickly to look after the injured children, while one colleague ‘may have even saved his life.’ Lots of police were present at the venue following the injuries, according to another witness. A Met Police spokesperson said they received reports of a child being injured by a collapsing wall at the golf venue. They said: ‘Officers attended and paramedics were treating a five-year-old boy. ‘He was taken to hospital by the London Air Ambulance, where he remains in a life-threatening condition. ‘A six-year-old girl was also injured and has since been discharged from the hospital.’ Enquiries are ongoing and the venue remains closed.
