Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness has confirmed three storm-related deaths as the island braces for the full impact of an approaching hurricane. The fatalities were reported on Monday evening, with officials noting that the incidents occurred “in preparation” for the storm, underscoring the dangerous conditions already affecting parts of the country.
In a post on X, the ministry urged the public to exercise extreme caution, warning that activities such as climbing roofs, securing sandbags, or cutting trees can easily lead to serious injury or death under hurricane conditions. Authorities also cautioned residents against driving through flooded or debris-filled areas, describing such actions as “extremely hazardous.”
While health centres across the island remain closed, hospitals continue to operate and are treating individuals suffering from storm-related injuries. Officials appealed to the public to stay safe and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families as the hurricane approaches Jamaica.
