A UK airline is reportedly on the brink of administration, which would be a significant setback for the British travel industry.
Eastern Airways, which operates flights to Wick and Aberdeen, Humberside, Teesside International, London Gatwick, and Newquay, has submitted a notice of intention to appoint an administrator.
This step provides a temporary 10-day reprieve, preventing creditors from taking legal actions against the company, according to The Sun.
The airline is a popular choice for sports clubs, with Premier League superstars often using Eastern Airways charter flights to travel to games.
Reports indicate that up to 1.3 million passengers could be affected. The airline began operations in 1997, but in recent years, it has experienced a reduction in routes.
It previously operated a wider variety of flights, including routes to Gibraltar from Southampton and Birmingham.
Services to Gibraltar were launched in 2021 but were discontinued just a year later. In 2024, the airline also cancelled its route between Cardiff and Paris Orly, France.
On its website, the airline currently lists a total of seven destinations. All flights could be canceled if the airline does not successfully resolve its issues.
