Police are urgently investigating the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl after they were called to reports that three children had been assaulted.

The youngster was sadly discovered dead inside a home in Islip, Oxfordshire, on Tuesday.

Three children were found at the property with two rushed to hospital to receive treatment alongside a woman from Oxfordshire who was in a life-threatening condition.

Sadly, the third child found at the property – a nine-year-old girl – was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The woman, aged 49, remains in hospital under police bed watch at this time.

Officers said they are not currently seeking anyone else in connection to the incident.

A cordon was erected in the area while officers carried out inquiries into the tragedy.

Thames Valley Police said the children’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Sally Spencer confirmed a probe into the girl’s death is ongoing.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but the cause of death has not yet been reported.

The two youths who were raced to hospital received treatment and have since been discharged.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Amy Fox said: “First and foremost, our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.

“A 49-year-old woman from Oxfordshire was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition and is currently under police bed watch.

“We are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

“The scene has now concluded at the property, but officers will continue to be present in the area over the weekend, and we encourage anyone with concerns or information to speak with them.

“This remains a highly sensitive and complex investigation.

“I want to sincerely thank the community for their understanding and patience as we work to uncover the full circumstances.”

Neighbours were horrified when the heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on their street.

Mum-of-two Vicky Preston, 50, said: “I’ve lived here for 15 years. Nothing like this has ever happened. It’s an absolute tragedy.

“Of course, my heart goes out to the family and the friends who knew her.
It’s just tragic.”

One local said: “The girls ran to her for help. She was the one who called the police.

“It’s just awful. They’re [the neighbour] traumatised.”

Another said: “They were a busy young family, always working.

“It’s terribly sad I can’t imagine what on earth must have happened.”

She added: “It was terrible for the neighbours who knew them very well.”
