At least 63 people have died after two buses collided in Uganda.

Police believe the two buses were involved in a head-on collision between the capital Kampala and the northern city of Gulu.

They say the vehicles may have crashed because they were trying to overtake other vehicles - a lorry and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

The Ugandan Police Force said in a statement: "Sixty-three people lost their lives, all occupants from involved vehicles".

Following the crash, police warned motorists about the dangers of overtaking.

They said: "As investigations continue, we strongly urge all motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads, especially avoiding dangerous and careless overtaking, which remains one of the leading causes of crashes in the country."
