Prince William set to strip royal titles from non-working family members

Prince William has previously revealed that changes are on the way when he ascends the throne, with five royals reportedly set for the unfortunate fate of losing their royal titles. The significant change will be enacted by an executive royal order known as "letters patent" approved by Parliament in the early weeks of his reign.

This comes just days after the disgraced Prince Andrew revealed that he has decided to give up his remaining titles and honors, including his Duke of York title. In addition to stripping Andrew of his princely title, the five others reportedly joining him include Prince Harry, Prince Archie, Princess Lilibet, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie.

As for his other cousins, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Louise, and James have never used ‘prince’ or ‘princess’ titles.

Royal insider Tom Sykes told the Daily Beast: "Prince William will strip Prince Andrew, along with all other non-working royals, of their HRHs and princely titles when he ascends to the throne, friends and allies of the Prince have [said].

"The significant change will be enacted by an executive royal order known as ‘letters patent’ ratified by Parliament in the early weeks of the reign of King William V. It will remove princely titles not just from Andrew but also from Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they were stepping down as senior working royals in January 2020, with the couple now residing in California with their children.

As grandchildren of the current monarch, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, are entitled to their ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ title.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

Although they will reportedly face no changes in light of their father’s decision, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, could be set to face losing their titles once their cousin becomes monarch.

Both Eugenie and Beatrice are currently not working royals and have jobs outside of the Firm. Beatrice works as a strategist at a technology firm called Afiniti, whereas Eugenie works full-time as the director at Hauser & Wirth, an art gallery in Mayfair, London.

At the time of writing, Andrew is still currently named as Duke of York on the Royal Family website, this is, however, set to change within hours and is instead likely to simply refer to him as Prince Andrew.
