Three men charged after alleged sexual assault on travel influencer in India
While touring the world on motorbikes with her husband, a travel influencer was brutally gang-raped by seven men.
Three suspects have appeared before an Indian court, accused of raping Fernanda Gonzalez, 28, and assaulting Vicente, 63, after the horrific incident in 2024.
The assailants allegedly used a helmet and a stone to beat Vicente, leaving his "mouth destroyed". The couple, who have over 300,000 Instagram followers, were documenting their round-the-world motorcycle journey and were riding separately from India toward Nepal.
They had stopped for the night in Dumka district in India’s Jharkhand, where they set up camp before being discovered by a group of men who sexually assaulted Fernanda.
In footage recorded outside an Indian hospital, Vicente revealed the injuries they suffered, with Fernanda showing clear bruising on her face. She said they were also robbed but added that "their only intention was to rape her".
The influencers posted a video recounting their terrifying ordeal after setting up camp for the night during their trip to the Nepal border.
"Something happened to us that we wouldn’t wish on anyone. Seven men raped me; they beat us and robbed us, though not of many things, because what they wanted was to rape me," read the caption on one video, which showed Fernanda’s bruised face.
"My face looks like this, but it’s not what hurts the most," she wrote in one post. "Thank God we are alive".
"They beat us," Vicente added. "They held a knife to my neck and said they were going to kill me. Fernanda was raped. There were seven of them. Seven men."
Three suspects were later charged by the authorities with taking turns to rape Fernanda.
